KS1 Autumn 1 Learning
'Our Town, Our Village'
Geography:
We will be learning about where we live in relation to the United Kingdom and the rest of the world. We will recap over the four countries of the UK and their capital cities. We will study globes, maps and atlases to explore where places are.
We will find out about villages, towns and cities and geographical features that are associated with them.

Year 1 Science: Seasonal Changes and Animals including humans
The Year 1's will start off looking at seasonal changes, in particular clothing and Autumn. We will look at how things change and what we notice in Autumn. We will then move onto animals and classifications of animals into fish, amphibians, mammals, birds and reptiles. We will also explore which animals are ominvores, herbivores and omnivores.
Year 2 Science: Animals including humans
We will be learning that animals including humans have offspring which grow into adults. We will find out about and describe the basic needs of animals including humans for survival.
We will also describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food and hygiene.

Art - Colour mixing and 'Tell a Story'
The children will begin by exploring how to mix colours and carefully use paints to make new colours.
They then move onto drawing skills, working on carefully planned out lessons that focus on different drawing techniques including shading, textures and detail.
They also look at the work of the illustrator Roger Davies and look at characters from the book 'The Magical Kite Ride'. They will make their own characters in the style of the ones in the book.
