Headteachers Welcome

Together with the whole staff team at Marsden Infant and Nursery School I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our website for existing families, new families and future families, as well as those who are just interested in our fabulous school.

It is the beginning of an exciting time personally for me as your new head teacher and I’m very much looking forward to my first year working alongside you all. It is an absolute privilege for me to be trusted with the care and education of the children, families and staff in our whole school community. I have been teaching for nearly 30 years and have worked in several schools across Kirklees and beyond as a deputy head and class teacher. My home life is a busy one; I am the mum of two daughters and the proudest grandma of two grandsons with a grand daughter on the the way.

I believe, above all else, that childhood is a precious time where every child should feel safe whilst the needs of the whole child are catered for in a magical and rigorous educational environment. I was once told that a young child’s teacher should be the next best thing to mum and god and that is what I have worked and aspired to do through my educational career and that is what I want from the staff working with me at Marsden. Everyone remembers their favourite teachers from school and how they have inspired them in later life. This is why every interaction we have with a child is important and should make them feel listened to and valued. Every child should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential and I have the highest of aspirations and expectations for all of the children and staff I work with.

Through the hard work, dedication and commitment of our staff and governors at Marsden Infant and Nursery School we aim to provide an inclusive education that equips all our children to successfully meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.  This is succinctly expressed in our vision statement, “Learning together, Learning for life”.

Our school is able to provide a high academic offer to all children but we also recognise the importance of supporting the social, physical, emotional and mental health needs of a child alongside high academic aspirations. We ensure our curriculum is flexible, relevant and constantly reviewed to make sure that the children's needs, together with the requirements of the National Curriculum and National Strategies for Literacy and Numeracy, are being met.  Our creative curriculum is child-interest led with a focus on the development of key skills. We value first-hand practical experience highly and wherever possible strive to draw on the excellent opportunities offered within the busy local village of Marsden.

At Marsden Infant and Nursery School, staff, children, parents and governors work together to create a learning environment in which all members feel safe and secure, valued and respected. Together we create an atmosphere which is challenging, stimulating and exciting, and where everyone is encouraged and supported to achieve their own potential.

Marsden Infant and Nursery School is very proud of the strong links and partnerships it has with our families and the wider community. We develop a strong, inclusive culture where everyone is welcome – this is a strength of our school. As we move on together I want to see this partnership further flourish and grow.

We see our parents as partners in their child’s education and we hope you will become fully involved in your child’s learning journey. Should you wish to discuss any aspect of our school in greater depth do not hesitate to call to make an appointment and I will be delighted to show you round.
